Anopheles

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Hello! I'm a female Anopheles mosquito. Chances are you have had some type of run in with me before. I'm sanguinivorous. That means I like to drink your blood. Some people think that I give them malaria. That's not entirely true. I get a bad rap. You see, it's really some crazy parasite known as Plasmodium. Unfortunately, I act as a vector. When I bite in order to feed, this little parasite enters your body, and you might contract malaria. I have no control on the matter. I have to drink blood in order to survive. You can understand that, right? Hey, you must, there is a reason why Anne Rice is so popular, right? At any rate, one of the best ways to prevent me from accidentally giving someone malaria is to put up mosquito nets - I can't seem to penetrate the dang things at all.
